A bridge collapsed under the weight of an overloaded truck that was carrying freshly-harvested cassava in Cambodia.

Footage shows the lorry lying on its side as locals gathered to see the aftermath of the accident on the O'Chlong Bridge in the Snuol district of Kratie province on October 30.

Authorities said the 128ft long and 15ft wide steel Bailey bridge gave way when the heavily loaded truck attempted to cross, causing significant structural damage.

Following the incident, the Department of Public Works and Transport announced the temporary closure of all vehicle traffic on Provincial Road No. 3KRT24 in Sen Aphivat village near Kranhong Senchey commune.

They added: 'Motorists are advised to use the detour via Road 107 in Village 104, Kranhong Senchey, until repairs are completed.'

Officials have not yet provided a timeline for reconstruction, but assured the public that repair work will begin as soon as possible to restore access.

Local media reported that the truck's owner will be held responsible for the damage. No casualties were reported.
