SIEM REAP, CAMBODIA - NOVEMBER 4: Traditional boat races were held on Tuesday, Nov. 4, in Cambodia's northwestern city of Siem Reap as part of the annual Water and Moon Festival, Bon Om Touk, one of the country's most significant cultural events.
The festival, which marks the end of the rainy season, symbolizes renewal, prosperity, and harmony in nature, celebrated through the unique natural phenomenon of the Tonlé Sap river's flow reversal.
This year's celebrations in the popular tourist hub saw a return of the traditional races on a smaller scale. The event was notably organized following the recent easing of border tensions with neighboring Thailand, adding a tone of regional calm to the festivities.
Bon Om Touk, as the festival is locally known, is internationally recognized as the Water and Moon Festival. It stands as Cambodia's largest and most spectacular national festival, deeply rooted in the nation's agricultural life. The event takes place each November, timed with the full moon of the Buddhist month of Kadeuk.
