Tesla Offers Free Supercharging Miles To Drivers Trading In Gas Cars. Tesla is rolling out a new incentive to lure drivers away from petrol and hybrid vehicles offering 2,000 free Supercharging miles to anyone trading in a gas or hybrid car for a new Tesla. The deal comes as US electric vehicle sales are expected to drop following the end of the $7,500 federal tax credit — effectively making all EVs more expensive. The promotion applies across Tesla’s lineup, from the entry-level Model 3 to the Model S Plaid, Model X Plaid, and Cybertruck Cyberbeast. The free charging equates to around 500 to 870 kilowatt-hours, depending on the model — roughly a $200 to $350 saving on electricity costs. However, Tesla requires customers to sell their old vehicles directly to the company to qualify, unlike some rivals that accept proof of ownership. The free miles, which appear in the owner’s Tesla account, expire after two years and can’t be transferred though drivers will still pay standard idle and congestion fees.
