This is the terrifying moment a magnitude 6.2 earthquake rattled a school building as teachers and students fled in Indonesia.

CCTV footage shows pupils staying outside their classrooms when the tremors struck earlier today. Teachers and staff were seen running from their offices as the shaking intensified.

Authorities said the quake struck at around 7:32 am local time, with the epicentre located 71 kilometres southwest of Bone Bolango at a depth of 10.3 kilometres.

Officials advised residents to remain alert for aftershocks.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or major damage, and no tsunami warnings were issued.

Indonesia lies within the Pacific 'Ring of Fire' where the majority of Earth's volcanic eruptions and earthquakes happen.
