Terrified passengers clung to a ferry ceiling as a powerful storm pounded the commercial vessel in the Philippines.

Footage shows panicked travellers grabbing life jackets from overhead compartments as rough seas rocked the ship on November 4.

Authorities can be heard over the loudspeaker urging passengers to stay calm and avoid panic as the ferry made its way to Zamboanga City.

Local media reported the vessel had already departed the City of Lamitan before the Coast Guard suspended sea travel due to Typhoon Kalmaegi.

No injuries were reported, and the craft arrived safely at its destination.

Kalmaegi, locally known as Tino, has killed at least 92 people and displaced hundreds of thousands across the country. Another 26 others are reportedly missing.

State weather bureau PAGASA said the storm dumped more than a month's worth of rain in just 24 hours in Southern Leyte and Cebu.

Kalmaegi is forecast to leave the Philippine area of responsibility by late Wednesday or early Thursday.
