SANTA ANA, Calif. — Two cats are safe and back home with their owners after Orange County Fire Authority firefighters rescued them from an apartment fire in Santa Ana, officials said.

Dramatic video from OCFA Engine 28 shows firefighters arriving at the building, deploying hose lines, and searching in heavy smoke conditions. After confirming no residents were inside, crews located and removed the cats, who were later reunited with their family.

Firefighters also prevented the blaze from spreading to neighboring units, a result officials attribute to quick action, coordinated teamwork, and ongoing technical training.

OCFA shared fire safety reminders, including never leaving cooking unattended, testing smoke alarms monthly, maintaining a three-foot buffer around heat sources, and having a home escape plan.

No human injuries were reported.
