Floods submerged roads as heavy rain lashed Thai holiday island Phuket.

Monsoon downpours have been battering the tourist hotspot since Wednesday, leaving streets inundated amid the annual lantern festival.

Footage shows cars battling through waterlogged streets on November 6.

Soi Nanai 8 in Patong was among the worst-hit spots, where residents scrambled to move their belongings to higher ground.

In the Rawai subdistrict, several roads were rendered impassable to smaller vehicles, while low-lying neighbourhoods were also flooded.

Authorities have warned residents to stay alert as the Thai Meteorological Department forecast more thundershowers and isolated heavy rain along Thailand's west coast, including Phuket.
