China: Chinese electric heavy trucks charge into global markets
Storyline: Chinese electric heavy trucks charge into global markets [Voice_over] As the global shift toward sustainable freight gathers pace, Chinese-made electric heavy-duty trucks are rapidly building a worldwide following. From Uruguay to Sweden, more and more international buyers are sourcing electric heavy-duty trucks from China, drawn by a compelling mix of proven performance and robust after-sales support. [Sound_bite] Argentine buyer: "Chinese products. We believe that their technology is much larger and mature than the Europeans. So we are in the market for new products, new technology to take to our region." [Voice_over] Heavy truck manufacturers like Sany Truck say their overseas sales have grown significantly this year, with electric models now claiming a growing share of the total. [Sound_bite] Liu Fengfeng, general manager, overseas marketing arm of Sany Truck: "Electric trucks account for 40 percent of our export sales in 2025, and we expect this share to reach 50 percent in 2026." [Voice_over] Data from a Beijing-based data provider that tracks the country’s trucking sector shows that in the first half of 2025, battery-electric models accounted for 22 percent of all heavy-duty vehicle sales, a more than 8 percent increase from the same period in 2024.
