In the central city of Deir Al-Balah, power line workers have been carrying out repair and maintenance work on the main poles, despite facing severe limitations in equipment and resources.

Officials stated that the initial goal is to reactivate the power plant, a critical first step before electricity can be restored to vital service facilities. Priority will be given to the water treatment plant in Deir Al-Balah, which is essential for providing clean water to the population.

The scale of the challenge is immense. The Gaza Government Media Office recently declared the enclave an “environmental and structural disaster zone.”

It said that the conflict, which lasted nearly two years, destroyed approximately 90% of civilian infrastructure, leaving an estimated 70 million tons of debris in its wake.
According to United Nations estimates, the cost of rebuilding Gaza is projected to be around $70 billion.

The Gaza ceasefire deal was reached between Israel and Hamas in early October, based on a plan presented by US President Donald Trump. Phase one included the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. The plan also envisages the rebuilding of Gaza and the establishment of a new governing mechanism without Hamas.

Since October 2023, Israeli attacks have killed nearly 69,000 Palestinians in Gaza, most of them women and children, and rendered it largely uninhabitable.
