The Corniche area, which was once a favorite summer destination for Gazans with its restaurants, walking paths, and sea views, is now filled with hundreds of tents sheltering families.
The city’s port, once one of its liveliest places before the war, has also turned into a crowded shelter area packed with tents.
The lack of basic infrastructure services and ongoing water and electricity outages continue to worsen living conditions in the area.
It said that the conflict, which lasted nearly two years, destroyed approximately 90% of civilian infrastructure, leaving an estimated 70 million tons of debris in its wake.
According to United Nations estimates, the cost of rebuilding Gaza is projected to be around $70 billion.
The Gaza ceasefire deal was reached between Israel and Hamas in early October, based on a plan presented by US President Donald Trump. Phase one included the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. The plan also envisages the rebuilding of Gaza and the establishment of a new governing mechanism without Hamas.
Since October 2023, Israeli attacks have killed nearly 69,000 Palestinians in Gaza, most of them women and children, and rendered it largely uninhabitable.
