BAKU, AZERBAIJAN - NOV. 8: Azerbaijan marked the fifth anniversary of its victory in the Second Karabakh War with a large-scale military parade in Baku’s Azadliq Square attended by President Ilham Aliyev, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The ceremony began with the national anthems of the three countries and a minute of silence in honor of soldiers killed during the 44-day war.

Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov presented his salute, and President Aliyev greeted the troops with “Salam, soldier,” as the leaders observed the parade.

Elite units of the Azerbaijani army, including special operations forces, marines, border guards, internal security troops, intelligence teams and military school cadets, marched in formation.

Symbolizing Türkiye’s support during the war, the Turkish Presidential Guard Commando Battalion also took part, receiving long applause for its synchronized march with Azerbaijani troops.

Veterans of the Second Karabakh War were greeted with enthusiasm as they passed through the square, while a contingent from Pakistan’s armed forces also joined the parade.

The event showcased Azerbaijan’s modern tanks, armored vehicles, long-range missile systems and artillery units.

Unmanned aerial vehicles that played a decisive role in the war — including Bayraktar TB2 and Akıncı drones — were featured prominently.

In a coordinated display, Azerbaijani warships stationed in the Caspian Sea and air force jets released smoke in the colors of the national flag over Baku, while Turkish F-16s flew over the parade route.

Azerbaijani helicopters decorated with the flags of Türkiye, Azerbaijan and Pakistan also participated.

Thousands of spectators waving Azerbaijani and Turkish flags filled the square, chanting “Karabakh is Azerbaijan” and “Martyrs never die, the motherland is indivisible.” The official ceremony concluded with the closing announcement.
