Storyline: Cuban firms are tapping into China’s vast consumer market at the 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai, leveraging the record-breaking trade platform to deepen ties in biotechnology, agri-food, and innovation. This year, 23 Cuban companies are showcasing a broad portfolio spanning agri-food, technology, cosmetics, and biotech. Among them is BioCubaFarma, a leading pharmaceutical and medical equipment producer, which already operates more than a dozen joint ventures across China. "BioCubaFarma is at the fair for three major objectives: promoting traditional generic, natural and biosimilar products; expanding our 14-project joint cooperation network with Chinese partners, and promoting our innovative products for the Chinese market," said David Curbelo, Commercial Director of BioCubaFarma. The company's latest offerings for the Chinese market include a neuroprotective treatment against dementia, monoclonal antibody technology to fight cancer and other cutting-edge projects. "Our participation in this import fair strengthens the presence of our companies in China, and we intend to deepen our bilateral commercial relations and along with our Chinese partners explore new markets. We think that our participation at the expo is crucial to deepening our relations with China in the pharmaceutical field," Curbelo said. The CIIE remains a vital marketing gateway for Cuban exporters. China is one of Cuba’s top trading partners, importing pharmaceuticals, seafood, rum, and cigars, while exporting electrical equipment, machinery, vehicles, steel, and plastics. Running from November 5 to 10 in Shanghai, the 8th edition of the CIIE features its largest exhibition area to date and a record 4,108 overseas exhibitors from 155 countries, regions, and international organizations under the theme "New Era, Shared Future."
