Typhoon Fung-wong lashes waves from sea onto roads hitting nearby homes
Typhoon Fung-wong sent waves from the sea onto roads and homes as it triggered storm surges in the Philippines on Sunday.
Footage shows residents fleeing as water roared onto coastal homes in Catanduanes province at 8 am local time on November 9.
Fierce winds blew through the area, lashing the tides onto the seaside road.
The storm-prone province was placed under Wind Signal 5 - the highest of five tiers - as Fung-wong smashed into the Philippines with sustained winds of up to 185 kph (115 mph) and gusts of up to 230 kph (143 mph).
Fung-wong is the biggest storm to threaten the Philippines this year, with a 1,600-kilometre (994 miles) rain and wind band that covered nearly two-thirds of the archipelagic nation.
Locally known as 'Uwan', it made landfall as a super typhoon in Aurora province on the evening of November 9, prompting the evacuation of nearly a million residents.
The Office of Civil Defense said at least two people were killed while 500,000 were displaced in the onslaught as Fung-wong triggered large storm surges and widespread flooding.
State weather bureau PAGASA said the typhoon has weakened as it exited the main island Luzon. Fung-wong was churning over the South China Sea and is predicted to move towards Taiwan.
The storm struck immediately after Typhoon Kalmaegi hammered the Philippines, killing 224 people.
