Storyline: In the fragile calm following a hard-won ceasefire, six-year-old Gaza girl Elin Antiz, paralyzed by a bullet that struck just hours before the agreement, clings to hope, dreaming of the day she can swim and jump rope again. The incident unfolded on the fifth day before the October 10 ceasefire, when Israeli forces targeted her family's makeshift shelter in Gaza. "I was playing with other kids in the alleyway. I ran to tell my dad that someone nearby was hurt, and someone died. Dad told me to get down on my stomach and he would come and find me. Then [the Israeli army] started firing at us," the girl recounted on her hospital bed. Doctors managed to save her life in emergency surgery, but the damage to her spine is irreversible under Gaza's battered healthcare system. The injury has robbed her of sensation and movement in her legs. Elin is now receiving rehabilitation treatment accompanied by her parents at al-Wafa hospital in Gaza. "We just transferred Elin to the rehabilitation therapy department on the second floor of al-Wafa hospital. She's been here for three days and is getting better now," said Mohammed Antiz, Elin's father. Specialists have recommended a back brace and wheelchair for Elin, but the 37-year-old father said that the items are either unaffordable or unavailable amid widespread shortages in Gaza. Desperate for relief, Mohammed Antiz regularly visits local pharmacies, asking if any treatment for nerve injuries is available. "Currently unavailable. We can only wait and see. You can follow up with health department and see where it could be distributed. As for our facility, we currently lack this specific medicine," a pharmacist told him. Two years of relentless conflict have pushed Gaza's medical infrastructure to the brink of collapse, with hospitals overwhelmed and supplies depleted. For Elin, full recovery remains a distant dream without advanced care. Yet the little girl remains undeterred. "I want to seek medical treatment abroad, because there are no treatment options here. I want to play again like I used to, go swimming, jump rope, play hopscotch," said the little girl. Shotlist: Gaza City, Gaza Strip - Nov 4, 2025: 1. Exterior of al-Wafa hospital 2.
