LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. — A late-night call about a vehicle break-in turned out to have an unusual suspect — a bear trapped inside a resident’s car in the foothills, according to the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies arrived to find the animal still inside the vehicle and visibly agitated. Working together, they ensured distance and prepared pepperball launchers as a precaution while devising a safe way to release the bear. Deputies were able to open the door from a distance, allowing the bear to exit and run off without further incident.

While the car sustained damage, no people or animals were injured.

The Sheriff’s Office said the incident is a reminder to always lock vehicles — not just to prevent theft, but also to keep curious wildlife out.
