A powerful explosion rocked a car near the Red Fort area in Delhi on Sunday evening, killing several people and injuring many others. The blast, which occurred near Gate No. 1 of the Lal Quila Metro Station, also gutted three nearby vehicles.

The Delhi Fire Department received a call around 6:55 p.m. and deployed seven fire tenders to douse the flames. The Delhi Police Special Cell and forensic teams have arrived at the scene to investigate the cause of the explosion.

Preliminary reports suggest the blast could have been caused by a cylinder or a battery, but officials say the exact cause is yet to be determined. The explosion was so powerful that it damaged nearby street lights.

Senior officials, including the DCP of the Special Cell, are on-site overseeing the probe. A high alert has been sounded across the national capital following the incident.
