A major explosion has struck the heart of Delhi this Monday evening. At approximately 6:52 p.m., a car travelling slowly and stopped at a signal near Gate No.1 of Red Fort Metro Station (opposite the historic Red Fort) in Old Delhi exploded, triggering a fire that damaged nearby vehicles and shattered windows of the metro station.

According to official sources, at least eight people have been killed and many more injured in the blast. Some reports suggest nine fatalities and around 20-24 people wounded.

Eyewitnesses described a deafening explosion that blew out glass panes, set multiple vehicles alight, and created chaos in one of the capital’s busiest heritage zones.

The Delhi Police has launched a probe under terror-related laws and the Explosives Act, invoking the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) to investigate potential terror links.

Authorities have placed Delhi and neighbouring states on high alert. Security has been tightened across metro stations, railway hubs and major public installations.

The investigation is ongoing. The vehicle involved, a Hyundai i20, was reportedly moving slowly at the signal when the explosion occurred.
