Deep craters, debris and burned soil are visible in large areas, and essential supplies such as fuel, seeds, fertilizer and irrigation equipment are no longer available.
Farmer Yaser al-Masdar said, “the land is filled with residue from explosives and toxic materials. We cannot grow anything. Homes, fields, electricity networks, and wells were destroyed.”
He said farmers are unable to produce food due to the widespread destruction.
According to the UN, 87% of cultivated land in the Gaza Strip has been damaged, and between 79% and 89% of agricultural infrastructure has been destroyed or rendered unusable, leaving only 13% intact.
Israel has killed close to 69,000 people, mostly women and children, and injured over 170,600 others in attacks in Gaza since October 2023.
