At around 3:30 p.m. on 10 November, a direct-buried heating pipeline in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province, suddenly ruptured, sending a jet of water several storeys high mixed with large amounts of mud and sand. This caused localised flooding on nearby roads and briefly disrupted traffic.

The Wanbailin Heating Branch of Taiyuan Thermal Power Group immediately activated its emergency response plan, shutting off valves, locating the leak, and completing the replacement and repair of the pipeline by 9 p.m. that evening.

By 10:30 p.m., heating supply had been fully restored to all affected households.

The cause of the pipeline rupture is still under investigation.
