Pet dog evacuates with family as Super Typhoon Fung-wong floods home
This is the dramatic moment a family fled with their pet dog as Super Typhoon Fung-wong flooded their home in the Philippines.
Footage shows a resident carrying their pooch toward a three-wheeled vehicle in Labo, Camarines Norte, on November 9.
Fung-wong was the biggest storm to threaten the Philippines this year, with a 1,600-kilometre (994 miles) rain and wind band that covered nearly two-thirds of the archipelagic nation.
Locally known as 'Uwan', it made landfall as a super typhoon in Aurora province on the evening of November 9, prompting the evacuation of nearly a million residents.
The Office of Civil Defence said at least 18 people were killed while 2.4 million were displaced in the onslaught as Fung-wong triggered large storm surges and widespread flooding.
State weather bureau PAGASA said the typhoon has weakened as it exited the main island Luzon. Fung-wong was churning over the South China Sea and is predicted to move towards Taiwan.
The storm struck immediately after Typhoon Kalmaegi hammered the Philippines, killing 224 people.
The Philippines is prone to typhoons because it lies along the warm waters of the Pacific Ocean within the typhoon belt, where tropical storms frequently form and intensify.
