Fascinating timelapse shows snow cleared from Toronto airport as winter arrives
An airfield maintenance team cleared accumulated snow at Toronto Pearson International Airport as winter arrived.
Fascinating timelapse footage shows ground crews operating snowplough trucks to remove the white powder in Mississauga, Ontario, on the morning of November 10.
The workers can be seen clearing snow from the runways, taxiways, and apron to prevent planes and ground vehicles from colliding with each other.
Local media reported that nearly 10 cm of snow fell over the past 24 hours at the airport.
On February 17 this year, airport management deployed over 100 pieces of specialised equipment at Terminal 3 to remove 19.2 cm of snow accumulation. The crews reportedly cleared roughly 5 million square metres, about the size of 3,300 NHL rinks, as the snow continued to fall.
Approximately 65 per cent of Canada's landmass is covered in snow for more than six months of the year. Winter storms are common across the country and can include heavy snowfall, blizzards, blowing snow, freezing rain, ice storms, wind chills, and extreme cold temperatures.
