Dozens of passengers were evacuated from a ferry that became stranded in rough seas off Bali.

The 53 travellers onboard the KMP Cemerlang 55 had departed from Ketapang Port in East Java and were en route to Gilimanuk Port in Bali when the vessel was swept off course and ran aground due to strong currents on November 11.

Footage shows passengers wearing orange life jackets climbing down the side of the ferry into a rescue boat.

They were safely transported to the nearest port within an hour without injuries.

Lieutenant Bayu Primanto, Commander of the Indonesian Navy Post in Gilimanuk, said: 'After receiving the report, the joint SAR team in Gilimanuk immediately began evacuating the passengers.

'All have been safely rescued, and data collection has been completed.'

Rescuers successfully freed KMP Cemerlang 55 after it had been grounded for four hours, and the vessel safely docked at its destination port.
