UNCAPTIONED: UK To Tighten AI Testing Rules To Combat Child Abuse Imagery
UK To Tighten AI Testing Rules To Combat Child Abuse Imagery. The UK government is introducing new measures to prevent AI-generated child sexual abuse imagery allowing tech firms and child safety organisations to proactively test AI tools before they are released. The changes, announced under an amendment to the Crime and Policing Bill, will enable “authorised testers” to assess whether AI models can be exploited to create illegal material. Technology Secretary Liz Kendall said the move will help make AI systems “safe at the source.” It follows alarming new data from the Internet Watch Foundation, which reported that cases of AI-related child sexual abuse material more than doubled in the past year. The IWF’s chief executive Kerry Smith called the amendment “a vital step” toward protecting children warning that AI tools now allow abusers to create “potentially limitless” realistic abuse imagery. The NSPCC also welcomed the changes, saying they will increase accountability and ensure stronger child protection standards across the tech industry.
