Ghana Armed Forces said in a statement that a stampede occurred when thousands of young people wanting to join the army flocked to El-Wak Sports Stadium in the capital, noting that six people died in the incident and many were injured, while the injured were taken to the hospital and security forces had taken measures in the area.
The statement explained that the recruitment process, ongoing at the time of the incident, had been extended earlier due to technical difficulties.
Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama visited the injured at the hospital where they were taken for treatment.
