US: Helicopter Hoists Injured Hiker From Remote Adirondack Trail Junction

Lake Placid, United States - November 08, 2025 On November 8 at 12:45 p.m., Ray Brook Dispatch received a report of a hiker with an unstable leg injury at the intersections of the Algonquin and Iroquois Mountain trails, roughly six miles from the nearest trailhead. New York State Police Aviation was conducting training nearby, and Pilot Hogan responded to the call for assistance. Forest Ranger Rooney secured the 20-year-old hiker from Ontario in a harness while Ranger H. Praczkajlo prepared for the extraction. Ranger Praczkajlo successfully hoisted the injured hiker into the helicopter and flew to the Lake Placid Airport, where care was transferred to Lake Placid EMS. All resources were cleared from the incident at 4:10 p.m.
