7. MOSQUE WORSHIPPER NAZMI SALMAN SPEAKING TO REPORTER (Arabic) SALFIT, WEST BANK, PALESTINE - NOV. 13: Illegal Israel settlers set fire to Al-Hajja Hamide Mosque in the town of Deir Istiya in the occupied West Bank’s Salfit area on Thursday, November 13.

Local residents said settlers stormed the area at dawn, ignited parts of the mosque and wrote racist slogans on the walls. The fire damaged sections of the building before residents extinguished the flames.

The Palestinian Ministry of Endowments condemned the arson attack, saying it reflected ongoing assaults on Islamic and Christian holy sites in Palestinian territories.

Mosque imam Ahmed Salman said he arrived for dawn prayer and found the mosque in flames, adding that civil defense teams and locals managed to prevent the fire from spreading further.

Worshipper Nazmi Salman said Hebrew slogans included threats against residents and insults directed at Prophet Muhammad, noting that the Ali bin Abi Talib Mosque in the same town had been targeted in a similar attack years earlier.

According to local sources, the incident occurred amid increasing settler attacks on Palestinians and their property under the protection of the Israel army across the occupied West Bank.

According to the Commission of Detainees Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners Society, Israel has arrested more than 20,000 Palestinians since October 2023, while over 9,100 remain detained, in addition to hundreds held in military camps.

During the same period, attacks by the Israeli army and illegal settlers in the occupied West Bank have killed at least 1,070 Palestinians and injured over 10,700 others.

In a landmark opinion last July, the International Court of Justice declared Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory illegal and called for the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
