This is the dramatic moment a homicide suspect threw his gun into the woods during a police chase in Atlanta.

The suspect has been identified as Keith Hawkins, 37, wanted in connection with a crime that took place at 700 Eloise Street SE on April 9.

Officers from the Auto Crimes Enforcement (ACE) Unit located Hawkins driving near Pickfair Way SW and Ashwood Avenue NW on October 28.

Using their patrol cars, police boxed in his vehicle to stop him.

He then rammed the police cars in a desperate attempt to escape, before jumping out holding a handgun modified to fire automatically.

As he ran, the suspect hurled the weapon into a nearby wooded area before being tackled and captured by officers moments later.

Hawkins now faces multiple charges, including Murder, Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon (2 counts), Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Possession of a Machine Gun, Willful Obstruction of Law Enforcement Officers, and Operating a Vehicle Without Insurance.

He was taken to the Fulton County Jail for processing.
