NAPLES, ITALY - NOV. 14: Tens of thousands of high school and university students staged demonstrations across Italy on Friday, Nov. 14, voicing strong opposition to the education policies of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's right-wing government and its support for Israel.
The protests, organized under the banner of "No Meloni Day," took place in numerous cities, including the capital Rome, as well as Milan, Turin, Naples, Genoa, and Bologna.
In Naples started marching from Piazza Garibaldi, carrying banners and shouted slogans against ‘genocide, repression, and rearmament,’ criticizing the government’s decisions, including its foreign policy choices.”
Participants expressed discontent with the government's allocation of a larger share of the 2026 budget to defense spending at the expense of education.
The demonstrations also featured a strong show of solidarity with Palestinians. Protesters lit torches in the red, green, black, and white colors of the Palestinian flag and carried signs with slogans such as “Schools Against Genocide” and “Stop the Genocide.” These messages criticized both Israel's actions and the Meloni government's backing of the country.
Similar marches in other cities across the country echoed the same sentiments, with participants accusing the Meloni government of being an "accomplice to Israel’s crimes."
According to reports in the Italian press, tensions flared during the demonstrations in Turin and Bologna, where brief scuffles broke out between student protesters and security forces.
