Spain: Wildfires Explode Across Cantabria As 110 Km/H Winds Spread Flames
Spain - November 12, 2025 The video shows firefighters battling a wildfire as intense flames and thick smoke sweep across the landscape in Cantabria. Strong winds drive the fire forward, complicating every step of the operation. The post notes that the wind is carrying the fire over hills and valleys, making containment even more difficult. Cantabria has declared the highest alert level after a series of arson fires, with 20 forest fires recorded overnight and six still burning, fueled by extreme heat and wind gusts reaching up to 110 km/h. Authorities report that of the 20 fires provoked in Cantabria that night, eight are under control and six remain active. The high number of simultaneous outbreaks has severely challenged firefighting teams. The alert remains at its maximum level for the coming hours, and the regional government is keeping all available crews fully deployed. Officials are particularly concerned about the fire in Puente Viesgo due to its impact on the CA-170 road, the blaze in the Penas de Bejes area because of possible rockfalls in the La Hermida gorge, and the fire in Proano, where flames are fortunately moving away from populated areas. These wildfires form part of a broader autumn surge across the region, with dry air and a lack of rain creating ideal conditions for rapid fire spread.
