This is the heart-stopping moment a cyclist rode across railway tracks just inches from an oncoming train.

The man allegedly ignored loud warning horns as he wobbled over the level crossing in Bangkok, Thailand, on November 4.

CCTV footage shows the biker appearing to disregard the warning signal as he pedalled across the tracks at the last second, with the slow-moving train rolling past just seconds after.

Locals said the train was moving slowly as it was passing through the residential zone.

Despite being one of the wealthiest countries in Asia, Thailand suffers from chronic underinvestment in its highways and education, contributing to its poor road safety levels. Only a handful of African countries are worse.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.
