A French holidaymaker was rescued after slipping along a trail at a mountainous beauty spot in the Philippines.

The woman, from Paris, was visiting the Hanging Coffins when she lost her footing on the steep pathway in Mountain Province, on November 15.

Police and volunteers rushed to the scene, where they found the tourist sitting in pain with an injured leg, unable to stand. Rescuers administered first aid before lifting the woman onto a stretcher.

Footage shows her being carried up the steps to a carpark, where an ambulance was waiting to take her to St. Theodore's Hospital for further checks

The Sagada Municipal Police Station said: 'We remain committed to safeguarding all tourists exploring our cultural and natural heritage sites.'

The Hanging Coffins of Sagada are an ancient burial site where wooden coffins are suspended on cliff faces in the northern Philippines. The centuries-old practice is based on the belief that the higher the deceased were placed, the closer they were to the ancestral spirits.
