Mexico - November 17, 2025 A video recorded by Fer Valdés shows chaotic scenes in the Zócalo, in front of the Metropolitan Cathedral and the National Palace, during a large feminist and anarchist march on November 15, 2025. The march was linked to protests around the Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and turned particularly chaotic in this area. The footage shows black-clad protesters, many from anarchist and feminist collectives, some wearing masks and helmets and carrying improvised weapons such as sticks, hammers, and fireworks. They are seen attacking the metal security barriers that the government installed around the National Palace to protect the building. Protesters shake, strike, and try to pull down the barriers. Several in the crowd launch fireworks and Molotov cocktails directly at the fencing and at the police lines positioned behind it. A shirtless protester wearing a blue helmet is prominently shown hammering and tugging at the fence. Smoke, possible tear gas or fireworks smoke, and repeated explosions fill the square, while loud bangs, chanting, and shouting echo through the area. On the other side of the barriers, police in riot gear hold the line without advancing in these clips. Debris, graffiti, and broken fragments are scattered across the ground. The poster titled the video “Humanismo Mexicano” in heavy sarcasm, a jab at President Sheinbaum's ruling Morena party, which promotes “Mexican Humanism” as its ideological slogan while critics point to scenes like this as the reality under its governance. The clip is one of several viral videos from that day’s protest that escalated into vandalism and clashes.
