A plane carrying the Congolese mining minister and a delegation of 17 officials crashed today.

The Airjet Angola Embraer ERJ-145 had been chartered to fly from Kinshasa to Kolwezi in the Democratic Republic of Congo this morning.

But the aircraft carrying politician Louis Watum Kabamba caught fire when it veered off the runway at the Kolwezi Airport.

came to a stop off the runway on its belly, the tail area burst into flames.

Miraculously, the occupants and the pilots evacuated without any injuries seconds before the vehicle burst into flames.

Isaac Nyembo, the minister's communications advisor, said: 'The aircraft was flying from the capital, Kinshasa, when it ran off the runway during landing at Kolwezi airport in Lualaba province.'

Officials said the Minister was travelling to monitor an accident at the Kalando Mine near Kolwezi, in which on Nov 15th 2025 more than 40 workers lost their lives in a reported bridge collapse due to rains.
