UN Backs U.S. Plan for Gaza, Approves International Force. The UN Security Council has voted to approve a U.S.-drafted resolution supporting President Donald Trump's roadmap to end the Gaza war and launching an international stabilization force for the enclave. Last month, Israel and Hamas agreed to the first phase of Trump's 20-point plan — a ceasefire and a hostage-release deal but the UN's endorsement is seen as crucial for establishing a temporary governing body and giving countries confidence to deploy troops on the ground. The resolution authorizes a multinational force to help demilitarize Gaza by dismantling weapons and military sites. It also allows member states to join a Trump-chaired "Board of Peace," which would oversee reconstruction and economic recovery. Hamas rejected the plan, saying any international oversight of Gaza amounts to foreign guardianship and insisting it will not disarm. Russia and China abstained during the vote, arguing the proposal gives Washington too much control. The Palestinian Authority, however, welcomed the move and signaled it is ready to participate. The resolution has sparked debate in Israel because it references a potential path toward eventual Palestinian statehood — something Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu continues to oppose.
