Marine engineering students battled their DIY remote-controlled boats in a swimming pool.

Footage shows the youngsters launching their miniature ships during the activity in Davao del Sur, the Philippines.

Some of the vessels had spikes along their sides, while others burst flames.

They controlled the models as they floated on the water, attempting to sink each other until only one remained afloat on May 2.

Student Jomarie Lacson said: 'The battle was not just about winning. We were also testing our knowledge, teamwork, and creativity.

'We were cheering for friends and classmates as the RC boats raced, collided, and demonstrated the innovative designs created by each team.'
