Clashes broke out during an anti-government protest in Mexico City.

Footage shows tense scenes between riot police and demonstrators in front of the Metropolitan Cathedral and the National Palace on November 15, with what appears to be tear gas deployed.

Authorities denied using chemical agents, saying fire-extinguisher-based substances were used instead, though protesters continue to describe the response as repression.

Thousands of activists, organised by Gen Z, took part in the rally to protest rising crime, corruption, and impunity.

Local media reported that protesters tore down fences surrounding the National Palace, where President Claudia Sheinbaum resides.

Mexico City's public safety secretary, Pablo Vazquez, said around 100 police officers were injured, with 40 requiring hospital treatment.

Twenty civilians were also reported injured, while another 20 were arrested, and additional participants were referred for administrative offences.

The protests form part of a broader wave of youth-led demonstrations seen recently in countries including Nepal, Peru, Indonesia, Morocco, and the Philippines, where participants have expressed concerns over economic hardship and governance.
