IDAHO SPRINGS, Colo. — A driver who attempted to signal an oncoming police officer to “move over” — while traveling on the wrong side of the road — was arrested for DUI late Tuesday night, according to the Idaho Springs Police Department.

Around 11 p.m. on Nov. 18, an ISPD officer was patrolling the 300 block of Soda Creek near the Indian Hot Springs when he encountered a vehicle driving directly toward him in the wrong lane. Instead of correcting course, the driver flashed their high beams at the officer.

Police said the officer quickly stopped the car and arrested the driver on suspicion of DUI. No injuries were reported.

“While the moment had its humorous side, a DUI is no laughing matter,” the department said, noting they were grateful no one was hurt.

Authorities urged motorists to stay alert, drive sober and “keep the high beams for deer, not the police cars.”
