Dashcam-style footage from Patrick Periard captures a tense and chaotic evacuation scene at COP30 in Belém, Brazil, on November 20, 2025. Smoke drifts over the temporary pavilions as hundreds of delegates hurry out under nearby tents, visibly alarmed by the developing blaze.

The fire broke out in one of the pavilion sections — believed to be the health and science area. Firefighters responded swiftly and brought the flame under control, and fortunately, there are no reports of injuries. Organizers say safety checks are underway before parts of the venue can reopen.

This incident highlights the vulnerabilities of temporary structures at high-stakes events like COP30, especially under Brazil’s humid tropical conditions and amid critical climate negotiations.
