Vienna, Austria - November 20, 2025 Schönbrunn Zoo has introduced the new "PANDastic Experience," offering panda fans an exclusive behind the scenes look at the daily care of the zoo’s giant pandas. The tour begins at 8:00 a.m., giving visitors early access to see the pandas before the zoo opens. Guests join the zookeeper team and step directly into the routines of panda husbandry. Participants can watch a giant panda being weighed, observe the preparation of panda bread, and tour the backstage medical training areas, making the experience a rare highlight for any panda enthusiast. The tour also features a look into the pandas’ nighttime activities, with zookeepers reviewing footage recorded during previous nights. Over the course of the 90 minute guided visit, every question about these endangered bamboo bears is answered — from whether giant pandas truly have six fingers, to where the zoo sources its bamboo, to why daily weigh-ins are essential. Visitors learn not only about the animals’ biology and life at the zoo but also about the conservation project in China. "With this new offering, we are fulfilling the wishes of many visitors to experience the giant pandas up close. At the same time, we want to further strengthen understanding for the protection of this endangered species," says Zoo Director Dr. Stephan Hering-Hagenbeck. The exclusive "PANDastic Experience" is offered every first and third Friday of the month and costs 520 euros for two people, including daily admission.
