Miss Jamaica falls from stage at shambolic event in Thailand
This is the shocking moment staff rushed to treat Miss Jamaica when she fell from the stage, as blunders continued to plague the Miss Universe pageant in Thailand.
Gabrielle Henry, 28, was walking down the runway in a glittering orange evening gown when she missed a step during the preliminary round in Bangkok, Thailand, on Wednesday evening.
Footage shows staff rushing to her aid following the tumble that left her unable to stand. Onlookers erupted in cheers as she was lifted out of the pit and wheeled away on a stretcher.
In a statement, the Miss Universe Jamaica Organisation said Gabrielle was taken to the Paolo Rangsit Hospital to be treated, adding that she did not suffer any life-threatening injuries.
Miss Universe President Raul Rocha said: 'I would like to share with the Miss Universe family who are concerned for the health of our Miss Universe Jamaica that at 12 am Bangkok time, I have just left the hospital where she is being treated. I was there with her family and her, and thankfully, there are no broken bones, and she is under good care.'
The incident is the latest in a string of fumbles besetting this year's chaotic Miss Universe season.
In June, former Miss Universe Organisation (MUO) chief executive officer and co-owner Anne Jakrajutatip resigned from her post over the alleged falsification of financial statements for her company, JKN.
On November 4, Miss Thailand director Nawat Itsaragrisil allegedly called Miss Mexico Fatima Bosch 'dumb' in front of rolling cameras for missing a promotional event for the pageant. Several contestants stormed off. He later issued a tearful apology in a livestream, saying: 'I am human. I didn't want to do anything like that.'
While on November 18, just days before the pageant's final night, two judges dropped out as they accused the MUO of rigging the selection process for the top 30 candidates.
