This is the shocking moment a flatbed lorry carrying multiple new electric cars burst into flames on a motorway, sending thick smoke billowing from the burning vehicles.

Footage shows several brand-new cars, labelled as Teslas, on the transporter as flames and dense smoke rise from it on the Shanghai–Jiaxing–Huzhou Expressway in Huzhou, China, on November 15.

Witnesses said the fire ignited suddenly and the lorry 'burned within minutes'.

Officials from the Huzhou Traffic Management Division confirmed that an alert was received at around midday on Saturday.

Fire crews later reported that the blaze had been extinguished and confirmed that no injuries were recorded.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
