Peru: Chinese e-scooters win over Peruvian riders with affordable price
Storyline: Chinese electric scooters (e-scooters) have gained greater popularity among Peruvian users, thanks to their low prices, high quality and user-friendly design. In Peru, growing numbers of riders are turning to electric scooters to dodge traffic jams and slash commuting cost, while embracing a low-carbon, eco-friendly alternative that makes urban travel greener. Among the many Chinese brands, TailG stands out. Headquartered in south China’s Shenzhen city, widely known as China's Silicon Valley, the company specializes in innovative and practical electric two-wheelers. E-scooters are priced between roughly 500 and 1,500 U.S. dollars in Lima, with models available in a wide range of styles, shapes and sizes. Chinese national Huang Zhihui, who operates TailG's dealership in Lima, said the brand's user base has steadily grown since it entered the Peruvian market in 2015. "With a long history in China, TailG is a strong brand in the country. In Peru, we have accumulated nearly 300,000 users over the past decade," he said. Sales of two-wheelers, both electric and traditional, have taken off across Latin America. But e-scooters offer a more sustainable and reliable alternative, said Huang. "As the exclusive distributor for TailG in Peru, we are fully committed to building the brand. Price is certainly one factor, but Lima’s users also place great emphasis on brand reputation and product quality, while valuing reliable after-sales service just as highly," he said. Huang added that e-scooters, as the fastest way to navigate urban traffic, are gaining a solid foothold, joining a broader wave of Chinese vehicles expanding across South America.
