This is the moment a woman realised a tiny mouse had burrowed its way into her boot and was nestling next to her foot.

Jade Clough, 28, was enjoying a camping trip in the Macquarie Pass National Park in News South Wales, Australia, when she felt a strange nudge at her ankle - and assumed it was the property owner's dog, Lana.

But when she looked down to pat the dog, she discovered the real culprit was a tiny mouse-like creature poking its tail peeking out of her Ugg boot.

Jade identified the animal as an antechinus, which is a small marsupial that resemble mice but has the bristly fur of shrews.

Her boyfriend, William Vile, 28, captured the funny moment on camera as Jade slowly lifted her foot to reveal the tiny intruder.

Jade, from Sydney, Australia, said: "I felt a nudging on my ankle and thought it was the dog sniffing my boot, so I didn't react straight away. "

"When I finally looked down, there was no dog - just a tiny tail sticking out of the top of my boot!"

A wildlife ecologist by profession, Jade said she was stunned by the little visitor.

She said: "It's so unusual for them to come near humans as they're normally very timid."

"I don't know how it got in - I was just sitting at the camp table playing cards, and it crawled in. "

"I didn't panic because I knew it couldn't hurt me too badly. "

"I was mostly worried about moving my foot and accidentally squishing it"

and of course, they have tiny but strong teeth, so I didn't want to get bitten!"
