A powerful eruption of Indonesian Mount Semeru on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, was captured from near the Gladak Perak Bridge in Lumajang Regency, East Java Province, roughly 13 kilometers from the volcano’s summit. Fast-moving lava surged down the main channel of the Besuk Semut River, prompting the recorder, local food stall owner Uswatun Hasanah, to warn people standing on the bridge to move away as steam drifted upward.

According to Hasanah, several bystanders kept filming despite the danger. She said the steam was not scalding because the lava had cooled upon contact with the river water, but hot ash still posed a serious hazard. Later that night, a married couple from Kediri suffered burn injuries after attempting to cross the darkened bridge while lava was flowing beneath it on its way toward Lumajang.
