China: North China's ski resorts see tourism surge
Popular winter resorts in China's north are seeing a surge in visitors with more tourism product offerings and upgraded services. As snow blankets Mohe, China's northernmost city in the northeastern Heilongjiang Province, the region has geared up to welcome a surge of visitors seeking immersive ice and snow experiences. By leveraging its unique climate and geographic location, ski resorts across Mohe have upgraded services, providing visitors with exciting new options this season. Since the start of winter, Mohe's Northernmost Village Scenic Area has introduced new ice and snow tourism activities. One of the most popular adventures is the "snowmobile forest traverse", where visitors can race through the vast, snow-covered forests of the Greater Khingan Range, enjoying the thrill of high-speed riding in an extremely cold environment. The popular "water-splashing-into-ice" experience remains one of the area's top winter attractions. To enhance both safety and fun, Mohe recently opened the first-ever ice water splashing studio, offering special equipment for visitors and providing professional guidance from on-site instructors. "It's very meaningful for me as it's my first time to experience winter in the north. The staff are really friendly and helpful," said a tourist named Zheng Xiaoshu. In a newly developed ice and snow park, a dozen of recreational activities like ice slides and bumper cars thrill visitors, while the Mohe North Pole Ski Resort has also enhanced its capacity and service by adding new ski slopes and creating family-friendly vacation packages. On Saturday, northeast China's Jilin Province launched its new ski season with an opening ceremony at the Songhua Lake Ski Resort in Jilin City. As one of the partner venues, Changchun Tianding Mountain Ski Resort also opened for the season, with over 2,000 ski enthusiasts gathering to experience the newly improved facilities. This season, the Tianding Mountain has completed a full upgrade of its hardware and services. The resort has added 1,000 new sets of ski equipment, revamped its ski equipment hall, rest areas, and dining zones, and employed over 120 certified ski instructors to provide guidance for all skill levels. "I come here every year. The up-to-date skiing facilities and the good safety measures allow us to have a fantastic skiing experience," said Wu Fan, a ski enthusiast. The arrival of the 2025-2026 ski season has brought a wave of excitement to Zhangjiakou City in north China's Hebei Province. The area is buzzing with tourists, thanks to a series of high-profile international winter sports events and innovative tourism offerings. In the Yunding Ski Park in the city's Chongli District, over 150 young people from Taiwan traveled here to try out snow sports for the first time, receiving lessons from professional instructors. Meanwhile, experienced skiers enjoyed steeper slopes with more exciting speed. During this period, Chongli will host five major international events, including the FIS (International Ski and Snowboard Federation) Snowboard and Freestyle Skiing World Cup, as well as the Big Air World Cup.
