Wedding guests trapped in snow dig out cars in heels and suits
Wedding guests trapped in a snowstorm were forced to dig out their cars - wearing heels, suits and skirts.
Mark Dalton realised "something was wrong" when guests who had driven to Raven Hall venue in Scarborough had to abandon their cars."
Mark, 41, said around half of those who hadn't booked a room on Wednesday (19/11) were left snowed in until the next morning.
He thought that the next morning the snow would clear off but hours later guests were stuck in a convoy of ten cars due to the heavy snow.
The stranded guests were wearing dresses, suits and hills while trying to dig their way out of the hill.
Mark, whose wife was a bridesmaid, said: "People were dressed in the wrong clothes - wedding suits and high heels - people were being sick in the bushes. "
"It was a sigh to behold because there was a lot of people in cars that weren't getting out because they were in shorts, skirts and high heels."
"There was quite a big hill to get to the main road but we couldn't literally go up. "
"Some of us turned around to try and get back. But the hotel was closed by this point. "
"When we found out the name of the hill - Bloody Back Hill - it was quite apt. I imagine it has claimed a few passengers in its time."
"We put a load of social media posts out to see if anyone could come and help us. "
"One guy even threw himself on the bonnet of his car to act as a ballast because it was electric."
"At one point we thought we were going to have to head back to the hotel to stay the night."
Videos and pictures shared by Mark show guests desperately trying to get their cars out of snowdrifts.
Mark added: "Some people didn't even have coats."
"They were outside shoveling and digging."
"There was so much snow in my car's windscreen my window wipers got broken so I couldn't even see out the windows. "
"A couple of cars were missing the wipers too."
Help came in the form of a van full of shovels to rescue guests back to Scarborough.
But freezing guests only managed to escape the chaos three hours after they were left stranded.
Mark said: "One of the wedding party's sisters had come out in a van and they brought snow shovels and soups and they led the charge."
"We were pretty much stuck on Bloody Back Hill for about three hours."
"In the end we all managed to get out. We all helped push the cars, dig, put grit out ."
"It was quite good that we didn't really fall out with anyone at the wedding because we were all stuck together at this Bloody Back Hall."
After the ordeal some of the guests ended up at the pub as soon as they arrived in Scarborough.
