5. PRESIDENT MADURO ADDRESSING STUDENTS (Spanish) CARACAS, VENEZUELA - NOV. 21: Thousands of university students gathered in Caracas on Friday, Nov. 21, to celebrate Student Day and reaffirm their support for President Nicolas Maduro and the Bolivarian Revolution.
The students focused their demonstration on the defense of peace and sovereignty.
President Maduro welcomed the students in Miraflores and asked them to spread the message to the world, especially the U.S., that Venezuela wants peace and says no to war.
Tensions between the US and Venezuela have been on the rise since President Donald Trump this August ordered a military deployment in the Caribbean with the aim of attacking drug cartels and stopping drug trafficking routes, which are linked to Maduro.
Caracas maintains that what is being sought is a change of regime. Since then, the US military has carried out a total of 21 strikes on vessels it claimed were loaded with drugs, killing 83 people, and Trump has signaled he could attack alleged drug trafficking targets on the ground in Venezuela.
