Firefighters arrived to find that a white sedan had struck a fire hydrant, knocking it off and causing water to shoot at least 50 feet into the air. The water plume posed a risk to high-voltage power lines above. A transformer subsequently exploded in the area, prompting firefighters to retreat and request assistance from the Department of Water and Power. Water continued to shoot into the air. The LAPD and LAFD were on scene managing the incident. The driver of the sedan was evaluated at the scene but did not require transport to the hospital.
