Two-year-old is Britain's youngest golfer - and he's being tipped for the top
Meet Britain's youngest golfer - a two-year-old who is already being tipped for the top.
Little James Hearne Jr took up the game aged one and is now playing up to four times a week.
He's a member of Worthing Golf Club in West Sussex and is being taught by an ex-tour pro.
Dad James Hearne Sr, 28, says his son's love of the game isn't down to a "project Tiger Woods"."
Instead, the toddler became interesed after watching his grandad play - and is showing promise.
James Sr, a builder from Fulking, West Sussex, said: "He's been playing golf ever since he could walk."
"James loves golf. I only play once or twice a year, but Tammy's dad really likes golf. "
"He started taking James to the putting green, sitting him on the buggy... "
"He watched golf on TV and grabbed a plastic set to do it himself. He's been able to hit a golf ball ever since."
James Sr said his son can already hit a ball at 44mph and drive a ball between 35 and 40 yards on a simulator.
Top players average a ball speed of 174mph with their driver, hitting the ball a total distance of 303 yards.
"James usually plays three or four times a week," dad James Sr said."
"He plays the course at Worthing and has had four or five bogeys. He nearly hit a birdie the other day. "
"He knows how to putt as well; he knows he needs his putter once he's on the green. "
"Every time we ask him what he wants to do, he says he wants to go play golf."
James Jr is being trained by ex-pro Peter Tarver-Jones, who says he's never taught anyone as young before.
The 37-year-old says the youngster listens intently during his 30-minute sessions, which he has once or twice a month.
Mr Tarver-Jones, who has travelled Europe playing golf, said: "His enthusiasm and his understanding of the game are great."
"Difficult things like his putting pace control - he's got it. For such a young age, his coordination is exceptional. "
"I got to about 800th in the world, which is not as high as James will get, I'd imagine."
"You just want to make sure he has fun and enjoys it at the moment. "
"I've never heard of anyone as young as James doing this well. It's really impressive."
James Sr. and wife Tammy, 26, had James via IVF treatment before having his younger brother, Cruz, without the treatment.
"Hopefully, he will try to copy his brother," he said of his second son Cruz, who is one year old. "
"James plays football and likes bowling too. He's even allowed in the boxing gym as well; he hits the pads and the bags and tries to copy me. "
"As far as we're aware, he's the youngest golfer in the UK."
Grandad John Black says he had his grandson hitting balls at as young as 13 months.
"He was hitting the ball properly, even at that age," the 46-year-old said. "
"I bought him his first set of clubs. Since 13, 14 months old, this kid has been switched on, not only with golf but with everything."
On whether his son will be a famous golfer one day, James Snr added: "That would be nice for him, you never know. "
"But the main thing is he enjoys it. It keeps him away from an iPad and keeps him outside."
