Burmese junta launches strikes on villages killing five and injuring seven
The Burmese junta launched airstrikes on villages killing at least five civilians and injuring seven others in Myanmar.
The Myanmar Air Force reportedly dropped bombs in Mawchi village in the Hpasawng Township of Kayah State on November 21.
Local media reported that five tin miners were killed in the attack while seven other individuals were injured.
The area is a major tin and tungsten producing region that was seized by the Karenni Nationalities Defence Force in January.
Just two days later, fighter jets reportedly launched 500-pound bombs on another village near Thailand's Mae Hong Son province, flattening a church in the area.
While on November 24, army planes struck Kanhtooma village in the Sagaing region, leaving six dead and four injured.
Myanmar has fallen into civil war following the removal of democratically elected leader Aung San Suu Kyi, a Nobel Peace Prize winner, with a military coup in 2021.
Soldiers responded with barbaric force on protesting civilians leading to widespread condemnation and financial sanctions. Rebel groups and civilian militias around the country have since been locked in a series of ongoing clashes with the ruling military.
Aung San Suu Kyi has since been jailed for 33 years on politically motivated charges and is likely to die behind bars unless the army is toppled - a tragic end the politician hailed by Barack Obama as an 'inspirational icon of democracy'.
